Old Town Apartments 2D Albufeira

My recent trip to Albufeira, Portugal, was a mix of beautiful moments and some frustrating experiences. The large, basic apartment I stayed in had a fantastic location, offering easy access to the stunning beaches and vibrant nightlife the area is known for. Although the fixtures and fittings were a bit tired and could use some updates, they were overall functional and served their purpose well for a relaxing getaway. However, my excitement was soon overshadowed by a troubling issue regarding the €300 cash deposit required upon check-in, which I was later informed would be returned via bank transfer. This odd policy raised a few alarm bells for me, and, unfortunately, my concerns were soon validated.

Just three days after checking out, I received a message stating that my deposit would not be returned because the towels and bedding were in poor condition and that one sheet was missing. This accusation took me by surprise as I left the apartment in what I believed to be a reasonable state. Upon questioning this decision, I was informed two days later that the towels and bedding had been deemed fine after all but that I would still be charged €10 for the missing sheet. This fee felt trivial, especially considering there was no evidence provided to support the claim that any sheet was actually unaccounted for. It was a disappointing end to what could have been a lovely stay.

While the overall experience in Albufeira had its highlights, the inconvenience of the deposit situation left a sour taste in my mouth. The combination of enjoying the local cuisine, beach days, and picturesque views was somewhat marred by the lingering concerns over my deposit. I hoped for a more streamlined and transparent process that would not overshadow the great things about the trip, like the amazing location and overall value of the accommodation. Unfortunately, I left with a bitter taste not just from the unresolved issues but also from a process that felt uncharacteristic of the generally welcoming and hospitable nature of Portugal.
