Hotel Baia Grande Albufeira

Our recent trip to Albufeira, Portugal, was meant to be a joyful anniversary celebration, but it quickly turned into a saga of disappointment. We booked a last-minute getaway, only to find that the hotel fell tragically short of the advertised standards. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a disheartening sight: public and facial hair in the sink and bath, mould encircling the shower, and ants scurrying about. When we sought help from reception, we were met with staff who laughed off our concerns, handing us a can of ant spray as if it were an accepted solution. It was disheartening to feel dismissed like this, especially when we were genuinely hoping for a pleasant celebratory stay.

The accommodation itself didn't provide the comfort we had anticipated; the beds were akin to sleeping on rocks. After a week of poor rest, we returned home as stiff as ironing boards, a far cry from the relaxing vacation we hoped for. The breakfast offering was particularly uninspiring, leading us to venture into town for meals instead. Although the hotel featured pools, they were poorly maintained, making it a game of "dodge the floating dirt" whenever we tried to enjoy a swim. The aesthetic of the place felt incredibly dated, crying out for a refresh that seems nowhere on the horizon.

Despite a rather grim experience overall, I have to commend one member of staff who was genuinely helpful. Unfortunately, the generally unwelcoming demeanor of the remaining staff, coupled with our prior experiences, discouraged us from raising further concerns. The location of the hotel is somewhat removed from the main attractions, but we had anticipated that when booking and found that using Ubers was a more economical alternative to local taxis. Reflecting on our time there, I truly wish we had chosen another hotel; this experience was a letdown, and I'm sharing my review in hopes that others might avoid similar disappointment.
