Our trip to Albufeira, Portugal, offered a mix of experiences that ranged from the disappointing to the delightful. Upon our arrival, the outside of our apartment complex greeted us with an unkempt appearance that left us feeling a bit apprehensive. Located on the second floor with no lift, it was a small hurdle for our group, but the biggest letdown was undoubtedly the state of the pool. It appeared as though it had been neglected since last summer, filled with rubbish at the bottom, which made it impossible for us to even consider a dip. However, the situation was somewhat salvaged by the proximity of a beautiful beach nearby, where we chose to spend our days basking in the sun instead of dealing with the underwhelming amenities of the apartment complex.
Inside the apartment, things took a turn for the better. It was clean and surprisingly well-kept, with a powerful shower that provided a refreshing escape after long beach days. With the beautiful beach and the charming old town of Albufeira within walking distance, the location was quite convenient. However, it's worth noting that the apartment was situated on a hill, posing challenges for those with mobility issues. Despite the minor inconveniences, we were focused on securing a cheap getaway, and at 312 euros for five people over four nights, we knew we weren't signing up for luxury. We needed a budget-friendly spot to crash at the end of the day, and in that regard, our expectations were met.
While we hoped for some flexibility with our check-in time after arriving from our early flight, we were disappointed to learn that an early check-in was not possible, and we had nowhere to stash our bags during that time. The beds and pillows were uncomfortable, which made for a restless night's sleep after long days in the sun. But overall, we embraced the "cheap and cheerful" vibe of our trip. It became clear that the allure of Albufeira lay in its beautiful beaches and lively atmosphere rather than luxurious accommodations. For those willing to sacrifice comfort for a budget-friendly getaway, Albufeira offers a unique melting pot of experiences that combines relaxation by the sea and exploration of its charming town.
