Our trip to Albufeira, Portugal, was a mix of experiences that ultimately left us feeling disappointed, especially when it came to the accommodations. One of the most frustrating aspects was the presence of ants in every bedroom, which even invaded our beds. The little nuisances waking us up multiple times during the night made it difficult to truly relax and enjoy our stay. The twin bedroom facing the sea had its aesthetic appeal, offering beautiful views, but the discomfort of the overly hard mattresses couldn’t be overlooked. After five nights, I found myself not regretting our departure, as the thought of sleeping in an ant-free bed was a welcome relief. To add to our troubles, the showers only ever provided lukewarm water, likely due to a solar-powered system that depended too heavily on sunlight. Given the cost of our stay, I had anticipated a more amenable shower experience.
On the brighter side, we did encounter responsive staff during our stay, which alleviated some of our frustrations. Upon arrival, we faced an inconvenience with the key code functionality, which had malfunctioned. Initially, we were given a key that couldn’t properly lock the door, leaving us feeling a bit vulnerable on our first night. As a family of four, the lack of an effective locking system forced us to coordinate our comings and goings, which was far from ideal. However, when we reported the issue, the staff acted quickly, and by day two, the key code system was restored and reinstalled, alleviating the potential stress caused by the initial hiccup.
In retrospect, while our experience in Albufeira had its highlights, particularly with the attentiveness of the staff, the negative aspects overshadowed them. The persistent issue of ants greatly detracted from our ability to fully enjoy our holiday. Additionally, combined with the hard mattresses and unreliable hot water, the overall comfort level fell short of what we expected for the amount we spent. While the beautiful scenery of Albufeira and the quick resolution to our key issue had their merits, the discomfort we experienced in our accommodations ultimately colored our perception of the trip.
